A bass booster that adds weight without crackle
This bass booster makes the low end of a song, a video soundtrack or a voice recording fuller and stronger, and saves it as a new MP3, WAV or other file. Use it for a track that sounds thin on your speakers, for earbuds that are light on bass, or for a voiceover that needs more warmth.
It works with a low-shelf filter, which lifts every frequency below a chosen point by the same amount, followed by a true-peak limiter. Boosting bass raises the loudest peaks, and without protection those peaks would exceed the maximum a file can hold and turn into crackle. The limiter turns the gain down only at those moments, so the bass stays loud and clean.
Your file stays on your device. The boost, the limiter and the encoders all run in the browser, with a progress bar and a Cancel button.
How to use the Bass Booster
- Drop an audio file onto the box or click to choose one.
- Pick a quick amount (Light +4 dB to Extreme +16 dB) or drag the Bass boost slider. The curve shows what changes.
- Choose the corner frequency in Boost below about: around 60–80 Hz for deep sub-bass, 100–150 Hz for a punchier kick, 200 Hz for warmth.
- Press Preview 10 seconds to listen from the marker on the waveform. Keep the limiter on and the rumble cut if you are unsure.
- Choose a format, press Boost the bass and download the result.
Bass Booster features
Adjustable low shelf
Boost from 0 to 20 dB below a corner frequency you set between 40 and 250 Hz. A shelf lifts the bass smoothly instead of adding a single boomy peak.
Limiter against clipping
A look-ahead true-peak limiter holds the output under a ceiling of −0.1 to −3 dBFS, so loud bass notes do not distort.
Rumble filter
An optional 25 Hz high-pass removes inaudible sub-sonic energy that would otherwise use up headroom and make speakers work for nothing.
Live response curve
The plotted curve comes from the same filters used in the export.
Preview before saving
Hear ten seconds with the boost applied, from any point you tap on the waveform.
Five formats
MP3, M4A (AAC), WAV, FLAC or OGG Vorbis.
How much bass boost is right?
Every 6 dB doubles the strength of the signal, but a boost is only useful if the equipment can reproduce it. Start small and listen on the device you will actually use.
| Boost | Effect | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| +3 to +4 dB | A little more body | Thin recordings, laptop speakers |
| +6 to +8 dB | Clearly fuller | Most songs on earbuds |
| +10 to +12 dB | Strong, club-like | Hip-hop and electronic on small speakers |
| +14 dB and above | Extreme | Only if the limiter is on; large speakers and subwoofers can be strained |
Why a limiter matters
Bass carries most of a song’s energy. When you lift it by 10 dB, a loud kick drum that was comfortably inside the file’s range can end up beyond it. A digital file cannot store that, so the top of the wave is flattened, which you hear as a harsh buzz. Even if no single sample reaches the limit, the smooth wave a player rebuilds between samples can, so the limiter here looks ahead by a few milliseconds and measures the true peak.
If the note below the controls shows the limiter working hard, lower the boost a little, or make the track quieter first with the Audio Volume Booster set to a negative gain.
Tips
- Small speakers and phones cannot play much below 80 Hz. Boosting 100–200 Hz there makes bass sound stronger than boosting sub-bass.
- If the boost makes vocals sound muddy, use the Audio Equalizer to cut a few decibels around 250–400 Hz.
- For a spacious feel, try 8D Audio Converter after boosting the bass.
Bass Booster FAQ
How do I boost the bass of an MP3?
Drop the MP3 onto this bass booster, choose a boost such as +8 dB, keep the limiter on and press Boost the bass. You get a new MP3 with stronger low frequencies.
Will it damage my speakers or headphones?
A large boost with a small driver can strain it. Start at +4 to +8 dB, keep the limiter on, and turn the volume down while you test.
Why does my bass-boosted song sound quieter?
The limiter lowers the overall level when the boosted peaks would clip. That keeps the sound clean. If you want it louder afterwards, use the volume booster or normalizer.
Is it free and private?
Yes. It is free, there is no sign-up or watermark, and the file is processed on your device without being uploaded.
What is the difference between this and an equalizer?
A bass booster is a one-step shortcut: one shelf and a limiter. The equalizer gives you many bands and a parametric mode for detailed work.
Can I boost the bass of a video?
First extract the soundtrack with Video to Audio, boost it here, and then use the new audio wherever you need it.
