Make your own 8D audio with the sound circling your head
“8D audio” is a stereo effect in which a song seems to move around you: it drifts to the right ear, behind your head, to the left ear and back to the front, again and again. It is not really eight-dimensional, and it is not surround sound. It is a clever use of panning, volume and timing, and it only works properly on headphones. This 8D audio converter applies it to a file from your own device and saves the result as MP3, WAV or another format.
You can choose how fast the sound goes around (from 2 to 30 seconds per circle), how strongly it moves, which direction it travels, and how much room reverb is added. Two methods are available: a stereo pan that works on every pair of headphones, and a 3D (HRTF) method that models how your ears and head change the sound as it moves around you.
This is an upload-only tool. It does not download audio from links, so you need the file on your device and the right to modify it. Nothing is uploaded; all work is done in your browser.
How to use the 8D Audio Converter
- Drop an audio file you own or have permission to use onto the box, or click to choose one.
- Set Seconds per circle. Around 6–10 seconds feels natural. Faster than 4 seconds can feel dizzying.
- Leave Depth at 100% for the full effect, or lower it for a gentler sway. Choose Clockwise or Anticlockwise.
- Choose a Method and add a little Room reverb (10–25% sounds more spacious). Put on headphones and press Preview 10 seconds.
- Choose a format and press Make it 8D. The download is a stereo file.
8D Audio Converter features
Speed and direction
One full circle every 2 to 30 seconds, clockwise or anticlockwise, held perfectly steady for the whole track.
Depth control
In stereo-pan mode depth is how far left and right the sound travels. In 3D mode it is how much of the circling source is blended with the original.
Two panners
The stereo panner is simple, mono-compatible-friendly and works anywhere. The HRTF panner models head and ear shape for a more convincing sense of behind and ahead.
Optional room reverb
A short generated room reverb gives the circling sound a space to move in.
Upload only
No link ripping: you choose a file from your own device.
Five formats
MP3, M4A (AAC), WAV, FLAC or OGG Vorbis.
How the effect works
Your brain locates sound with tiny differences between the ears. A sound on the right arrives slightly earlier and louder in the right ear, and the head blocks some high frequencies on the far side. Slowly moving those cues round in a circle makes a recording feel as if it orbits the listener.
The stereo-pan method moves the balance between left and right with a smooth sine wave. The HRTF method uses a head-related transfer function, which is a model of how sound is filtered by the head, ears and shoulders, and places the source on a circle around you. Because the effect depends on separate left and right signals, playing it on a single speaker removes it and can make the music sound uneven.
Settings that work well
| Style | Seconds per circle | Depth | Reverb |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calm, slow drift | 12–20 | 70–100% | 15% |
| Classic 8D | 6–10 | 100% | 15–25% |
| Fast and dramatic | 3–5 | 100% | 10% |
| Subtle width | 8–10 | 30–50% | 10% |
Tips and limits
- Music with a steady centre (vocals, bass, kick drum) works best. Wide stereo songs can sound less focused.
- The pan method keeps each channel’s content, so a song that is already wide stays wide. The HRTF method folds the song to one moving point and mixes in the original by the depth setting.
- Very low bass is hard to locate. Boost it separately with the Bass Booster before converting if the track seems to lack impact.
- Files can be up to 20 minutes long. For long mixes, cut them into parts first.
8D Audio Converter FAQ
What is 8D audio?
It is a stereo effect that makes sound seem to rotate around your head. The name is popular rather than technical. It needs headphones.
How do I convert a song to 8D?
Drop the file onto this converter, set the speed and depth, put on headphones to preview, and press Make it 8D. Then download the MP3 or WAV.
Does it work on speakers?
Not well. Left and right ears need separate signals. On speakers, the effect becomes a volume swing between the two sides.
Can I paste a YouTube link?
No. This tool only works with files on your device, and it does not download from websites. Use audio you own or have permission to change.
Is it free and private?
Yes. There is no sign-up or watermark, and your file is processed in your browser without being uploaded.
Which method sounds better?
Try both on a ten-second preview. Stereo pan is clearest and always works. The 3D method often sounds more natural on good headphones, but it differs from person to person because everyone’s ears are different.
