How the Badí‘ calendar is set

Since 172 B.E. (2015) all Bahá’ís use one calendar, following a letter of the Universal House of Justice of 10 July 2014. Naw-Rúz is the day, reckoned from sunset to sunset in Tehran, in which the March equinox occurs — so it falls on 20 or 21 March. The number of days of Ayyám-i-Há, four or five, follows from the next Naw-Rúz.

The Twin Holy Birthdays, the Birth of the Báb and the Birth of Bahá’u’lláh, keep their lunar character: they are celebrated on the first and second days after the eighth new moon after Naw-Rúz, which places them between mid-October and mid-November. The other Holy Days have fixed Badí‘ dates. Like every Bahá’í day, each begins at sunset the evening before.
