An ACT score calculator for the enhanced ACT
This ACT score calculator turns your section scores into an ACT Composite the way ACT does: the average of English, Math and Reading, rounded to the nearest whole number, with halves rounded up. Science became optional in 2025 and no longer counts towards the Composite, but if you enter a Science score you also get your STEM score — the average of Math and Science.
Add more test dates to see your superscore, the average of your best English, Math and Reading scores across every attempt. Each score comes with its national rank from ACT’s 2026–2027 table, the percentage of recent graduates who scored at or below it — the same “US Rank” printed on score reports this year. A full ACT scores chart is at the bottom.
How to use the ACT Score Calculator
- Enter your English, Math and Reading scores (1–36). Add Science if you took it.
- Read your Composite, the sum and average behind it, and its national rank.
- Click “Add another test date” to enter more attempts — the result switches to your superscore and stars the best section scores.
- Tick “Legacy ACT” for tests taken before the 2025 change, when the Composite averaged all four sections.
- Open the scores chart to compare any score with ACT’s national ranks.
ACT Score Calculator features
ACT’s rounding rule
Averages ending in .5 or more round up; below .5 round down — 25.5 becomes 26, 25.33 becomes 25.
STEM score
The average of Math and Science, shown whenever you enter both.
Superscore
Up to six test dates; the best score in each section is used, as ACT’s superscore report does.
2026–27 national ranks
For Composite, STEM and every section, from ACT’s current national ranks table.
Legacy mode
The pre-2025 four-section Composite, for older score reports.
How the ACT Composite is calculated
Add the three section scores and divide by three: Composite = round((English + Math + Reading) ÷ 3). Example: 24 + 26 + 27 = 77, and 77 ÷ 3 = 25.67, which rounds to 26. With 25, 25 and 26 the average is 25.33, so the Composite is 25.
ACT phased Science out of the Composite in 2025 — from April for students testing online on national test dates and from September for everyone else. Composite scores earned before the change keep their old four-section value; this calculator’s Legacy option reproduces that calculation.
ACT score ranges and national ranks
ACT scores run from 1 to 36. The table shows a few Composite scores with the share of 2024–2026 graduates who scored at or below them (ACT national ranks 2026–2027).
| Composite | National rank | Composite | National rank |
|---|---|---|---|
| 36 | 100 | 24 | 80 |
| 34 | 99 | 22 | 72 |
| 32 | 97 | 20 | 63 |
| 30 | 94 | 18 | 52 |
| 28 | 91 | 16 | 41 |
| 26 | 86 | 14 | 28 |
Superscores and what colleges see
ACT calculates a superscore when you have tested more than once: the average of your highest English, Math and Reading scores, whichever dates they came from — including dates on the older test. Colleges decide whether to use superscores, the latest score or the highest single sitting, so check each admissions page.

ACT Score Calculator FAQ
How is the ACT Composite calculated in 2026?
It is the average of English, Math and Reading, rounded to the nearest whole number (halves round up). Science is optional and reported separately.
How do I use this ACT score calculator for a superscore?
Enter your first test, click “Add another test date” and enter the next one. The calculator takes your best English, Math and Reading scores and averages them.
What is the ACT STEM score?
The average of your Math and Science scores. You only get one if you take the optional Science section.
What is a good ACT score?
A 24 Composite is at the 80th national rank and a 28 at the 91st on ACT’s 2026–27 table. “Good” depends on the colleges you are applying to — compare with their middle 50% ranges.
Does Science still count on the ACT?
Not in the Composite since 2025. It still gives you a Science score and a STEM score, and some colleges and scholarships ask for it.
Where do the national ranks come from?
From ACT’s Score National Ranks 2026–2027 table, based on ACT-tested graduates of 2024, 2025 and 2026.
