Make a ringtone from any song in seconds
This ringtone maker cuts the part of a song you love — usually the chorus — into a phone ringtone. Open an MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC or Ogg file, and the page suggests the loudest stretch of the song, starting where the music kicks in. Adjust it on the waveform, add a soft fade-in and fade-out, and save it as an iPhone ringtone (.m4r) or an MP3 for Android.
It is a free ringtone maker online with no sign-up and no watermark, and it works on phones as well as computers. Your music is processed by your own browser and never uploaded. For iPhone the length is kept to 40 seconds, the longest ringtone iOS accepts.
How to use the Ringtone Maker
- Drop a song on the box, or tap it to choose a file from your phone or computer.
- Choose iPhone (.m4r) or Android & others (.mp3).
- Check the suggested section, or drag the Start and End handles; Play this part lets you hear it. You can also type a start time and length.
- Set the fade in and fade out (0.5 s and 2 s by default) and keep “Make it loud” on so the ringtone is easy to hear.
- Press Make iPhone ringtone or Make MP3 ringtone, listen to the result and download it. Then follow the steps for your phone shown under it.
Ringtone Maker features
Finds the chorus for you
The loudest part of the song is suggested, starting on the strongest entry in that stretch, so you rarely need to search by hand.
iPhone M4R
AAC audio in an MP4 file with the .m4r extension, ready for Finder or iTunes; the 40-second limit is applied for you.
MP3 for Android
A standard MP3 at 192 kbps (or your choice) that every Android phone can use as a ringtone, alarm or notification sound.
Smooth fades
S-shaped fade-in and fade-out, drawn on the waveform, so the ringtone neither starts with a click nor stops abruptly.
Loud and clear
Optional normalisation raises the peak to −1 dB, the most a ringtone can gain without clipping.
Private
Decoding, cutting and encoding all happen in your browser.
MP3 or M4R — which file does my phone need?
An M4R file is simply AAC audio in an MPEG-4 container — the same as an .m4a — with the extension that tells Apple’s software it is a ringtone. iPhones only offer custom ringtones in this form, synced from a computer or created with GarageBand. Android phones are simpler: any MP3 (or M4A, OGG) in the Ringtones folder, or picked from Settings, can be a ringtone.
| Phone | File | Length | How to install |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone, with a computer | .m4r (AAC) | Up to 40 s | Drag onto the iPhone in Finder or iTunes |
| iPhone, no computer | .mp3 or .m4a | Up to 40 s | GarageBand → Share → Ringtone |
| Android | .mp3 | Any (20–40 s usual) | Settings → Sound → Phone ringtone |
Tips for a good ringtone
- Start on a strong beat or the first word of the chorus so the tune is recognisable from the first second.
- About 30 seconds is plenty: a call rarely rings longer, and the ringtone simply repeats. Some computers have trouble syncing iPhone tones close to 40 seconds, so 30 s is the safest choice.
- Keep a short fade-in (0.3–0.5 s) to avoid a click, and a longer fade-out (1–3 s) so the loop back to the start sounds smooth.
- Quiet songs and classical recordings benefit most from “Make it loud”; heavily mastered pop is already near the top.
- Only use music you own or are allowed to use. This page works with your own files and does not download songs from streaming sites.
How the ringtone is made
The song is decoded once to draw the waveform and to measure its level every 10 milliseconds. To suggest a section, the page finds the window of your chosen length with the highest average level and, among windows almost as loud, picks the one that begins on the biggest jump in level — typically where a chorus or a drop comes in. When you press Make, only the chosen section is read, the fades and gain are applied sample by sample, and the audio is encoded with your browser’s AAC encoder (or the FFmpeg AAC encoder) for M4R, or with LAME for MP3, via the open-source Mediabunny library.
Want a ringtone that says a name? The Name Ringtone Maker mixes a spoken name over a tune. For general editing, the Audio Cutter trims and cuts out sections, and MP3 to M4A converts whole songs for Apple devices.
Ringtone Maker FAQ
How do I make a ringtone for my iPhone for free?
Open the song here, choose iPhone, check the suggested 30-second section and press Make iPhone ringtone. Download the .m4r file and drag it onto your iPhone in Finder (Mac) or iTunes (Windows).
How do I convert MP3 to M4R?
Drop the MP3 on this page and choose iPhone. The selected part is encoded as AAC and saved with the .m4r extension — renaming an MP3 to .m4r does not work, because the audio itself must be AAC.
How long can an iPhone ringtone be?
Up to 40 seconds. This ringtone maker limits iPhone ringtones to 40 seconds automatically; 30 seconds is the safest length to sync.
Can I make a ringtone without a computer?
On Android, yes: download the MP3 on the phone and pick it in Settings. On iPhone, download the MP3, open it in GarageBand and use Share → Ringtone.
Is this ringtone cutter free and safe?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up or watermark, and your songs are processed in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
Why does my ringtone sound quiet?
Leave “Make it loud” switched on. It raises the loudest moment of the section to −1 dB. A very dynamic song may still sound quieter than pop music.
