Random riddles with answers for every age
Press the button and this riddle generator serves a riddle from a bank of 150 original, family-friendly puzzles — classic “what am I?” teasers, wordplay, number tricks and lateral-thinking stories — each tagged easy, medium or hard. The answer stays hidden until you ask for it, so you can read the riddle aloud, let everyone guess, and reveal.
Teachers use it as a bell-ringer, parents for car journeys and dinner tables, hosts for party rounds, and writers for a quick creative warm-up. A printable riddle sheet with an answer key turns the same bank into a worksheet or a pub-quiz round.
Everything is built into the page; nothing is fetched or sent while you use it.

- Open Print a riddle sheet, choose how many riddles, a seed, paper and orientation, then Print, Download PDF or save a page as PNG. The answer key is the last page.
Riddle Generator features
150 original riddles
Written for this tool: object riddles, letter and word tricks, numbers, logic and gentle lateral thinking, with no scary or adult themes.
Three difficulty levels
Easy riddles suit young children, medium ones are party favourites, hard ones reward careful reading.
No repeats
Riddles are dealt from a shuffled deck, so you see every one before any repeats.
Hidden answers
The answer is revealed only on request — ideal for reading aloud.
Printable sheets

Seeded sheets
The same seed and difficulty always print the same selection, so a class set matches its key.
Kinds of riddles in the bank
| Type | Example style | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Object riddles | “I have hands but never clap…” | Children aged 5–9 |
| Letter and word tricks | “What occurs once in a minute, twice in a moment…” | Ages 9 and up, ESL classes |
| Number teasers | “A clock strikes six in five seconds…” | Maths warm-ups |
| Lateral thinking | “A cowboy rides into town on Friday…” | Parties and quiz nights |
How the difficulty levels were set
Easy riddles describe a single everyday object with two or three strong clues and no wordplay, so a six-year-old who knows the object can get there. Medium riddles add one twist — a pun, a letter trick or a small piece of lateral thinking — and are the sweet spot for mixed groups. Hard riddles depend on reading precisely: a word with two meanings, a number that is not what it seems, or a scene that only makes sense from an unexpected angle. If a group finds hard riddles frustrating, switch to All so the easy ones give everyone a win in between.
Tips for using riddles
- Read the riddle twice before anyone answers — most hard riddles hide the trick in one word.
- Give young children a category hint (“it is something in the kitchen”) rather than the answer.
- For a quiz round, print a sheet of ten mixed riddles and score one point each; use the answer page for marking.
- Pair the riddles with a trivia quiz, a cryptogram or a maze for a full activity pack.
Riddle Generator FAQ
Are the riddles suitable for children?
Yes. Every riddle was written to be family-friendly. The easy level is aimed at young children; some hard riddles need reading skills and patience.
Will I see the same riddle twice?
Not until all riddles in the chosen difficulty have been shown once; then the deck is reshuffled.
Can I print riddles for a class?
Yes. Open “Print a riddle sheet”, pick the number of riddles and a seed, and print or download the PDF. The sheet has answer lines and the key is on the final page.
Why does the sheet have a seed?
The seed decides which riddles are chosen and in what order, so you can reprint the exact same sheet later or share the seed with a colleague.
Can I add my own riddles?
Not in this version. For custom questions with scoring, use the Trivia Quiz Maker.
Does the riddle generator need an internet connection?
Only to load the page. The riddles are part of the page, and printing and PDF creation happen in your browser.
