A PNG resizer that keeps transparency

PNG is the format for logos, icons, screenshots and graphics with transparent backgrounds — and most quick resizers quietly fill that transparency with white or black. This PNG resizer keeps the alpha channel intact: a transparent logo stays transparent at 512 × 512, 180 × 180 or any size you type, and padding added to fit a square can be transparent too.

Resize by exact pixels with the aspect ratio locked, by percentage, or with icon presets from 1024 down to a 16-pixel favicon. Batch whole folders of assets and download them as a ZIP. Because PNG is lossless, nothing is lost to compression — and nothing is uploaded either, since the work happens in your browser.

How to use the PNG Resizer

  1. Drop PNG files on the upload area (other formats are converted to PNG).
  2. Type a width in Pixels — the height follows — or choose Percentage, or pick an icon size under Preset size.
  3. For square icons from a non-square logo, keep “Fit inside” and tick Transparent so the padding stays see-through.
  4. Optionally add a DPI tag for print, or a target file size in KB (PNG gets smaller by using fewer pixels).
  5. Press “Download PNG”, or “Download all as ZIP” for a set of icon sizes.

PNG Resizer features

Transparency preserved

The alpha channel is carried through every resize, including soft shadows and anti-aliased edges.

Transparent padding

Fit a wide logo into a square icon and the empty space stays transparent instead of turning white.

Icon presets

1024, 512, 256, 192, 180, 128, 64, 32 and 16 px squares for app stores, PWAs, Apple touch icons and favicons.

Lossless output

PNG keeps every pixel exactly; text and flat colours in screenshots stay crisp.

DPI in the PNG header

Writes a pHYs chunk so print and layout software knows the intended DPI.

Batch and private

Resize many files at once and download a ZIP; nothing leaves your device.

Why PNG file size works differently

JPG and WebP have a quality slider; PNG does not, because it is lossless. A PNG’s size depends on the number of pixels and how much detail they contain: a flat logo compresses to a few kilobytes, while a photo saved as PNG can be ten times bigger than the same photo as JPG.

That is why a KB target on a PNG reduces the dimensions instead of the quality. If you need a photo under a strict limit, switch the format to JPG or WebP here, or run the file through the image compressor. For logos and icons, PNG is nearly always the right choice.

Common PNG icon sizes

Size (px)Used for
1024 × 1024App store listings, master icon
512 × 512Progressive web app icon, large app icons
192 × 192Android home screen and web app manifest
180 × 180Apple touch icon for iPhone home screens
32 × 32 and 16 × 16Browser tab favicons

Tips for sharp resized PNGs

  • Scale down from the largest version you have. Enlarging a small PNG makes edges soft, and very small icons (32 px and below) often look better redrawn than shrunk.
  • Keep the aspect ratio locked for logos; use “Fit inside” rather than “Stretch” when the target is square.
  • For a complete favicon set with an .ico file, use the favicon generator.
  • Need a white background instead? Untick “Transparent” and pick a colour, or convert to JPG with the JPG resizer.

PNG Resizer FAQ

How do I resize a PNG without losing transparency?

Drop it into this PNG resizer and keep PNG as the output format. Transparency is preserved automatically; tick “Transparent” to keep any added padding transparent as well.

Why is my resized PNG still large?

PNG is lossless, so detailed images such as photos stay big. Reduce the pixel dimensions, or save photos as JPG or WebP, which compress far better.

Can I resize a PNG to 512 × 512?

Yes. Choose “Preset size” and “Large icon / PWA · 512 × 512”, or type 512 in Pixels. A non-square image is fitted inside the square on a transparent background.

Does resizing a PNG reduce its quality?

Saving is lossless, so no compression artefacts are added. Scaling down discards pixels, which is unavoidable, but edges are smoothed with high-quality resampling.

Can I set the DPI of a PNG?

Yes. Pick a value under “DPI tag” and the tool writes it into the PNG’s pHYs chunk. The pixel dimensions are not changed.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so logos and unreleased designs stay on your device.
