Markdown to DOCX Converter

Convert Markdown to an editable Word document — headings, lists, tables, code blocks, task lists and images.

Markdown
Preview — how the text, headings, lists and tables will be laid out

Runs entirely in your browser — nothing you paste or open is uploaded. marked (MIT) and the docx library (MIT) are downloaded once from a public CDN.

Convert Markdown to DOCX that works like a real Word document

This Markdown to DOCX converter turns a README, notes, documentation or a draft written in Markdown into an editable Microsoft Word document. Paste Markdown or open a .md file, check the page preview, and download a .docx for colleagues, clients or teachers who work in Word or Google Docs.

It understands GitHub Flavored Markdown: headings become Word’s Heading 1–6 styles, bulleted, numbered and nested lists become real Word lists, tables become bordered Word tables with header rows and column alignment, task lists get ☑ and ☐ boxes, fenced code keeps its indentation in a shaded monospaced style, and links — including links to sections such as [see pricing](#pricing) — stay clickable.

The Markdown is parsed with marked and the document is written with the docx library (both MIT licence) inside your browser, so drafts never leave your device.

How to use the Markdown to DOCX Converter

  1. Paste Markdown into the box, or press Open .md file. Press Sample to see the supported features.
  2. If the Markdown shows local pictures, such as ![Logo](images/logo.png), press Add images and select those files; they are matched by file name.
  3. Choose the page size, orientation, margins, font, size and line spacing. Tick Line break on every new line if your text relies on single line breaks.
  4. Check the preview and press Download .docx.

Markdown to DOCX Converter features

GitHub Flavored Markdown

Tables with left, centre and right columns, task lists, strikethrough, autolinks and fenced code blocks are supported, as is inline HTML such as or <kbd>.

Proper Word structure

Headings carry outline levels for the Navigation pane and tables of contents, lists use Word numbering with up to nine levels, and quotes use the Quote style.

Readable code

Code blocks keep every space in Consolas on a light grey background, and inline code uses Consolas too.

Working links

External links become hyperlinks, and links to #headings become internal links to bookmarks, so a Markdown table of contents still works in Word.

Images included

Pictures written as data URLs or added with Add images are embedded and scaled to fit the page, with their alt text.

Safe conversion

Script tags and event handlers inside the Markdown are removed before the preview and the document are built.

Images and other limits

Markdown usually points to pictures by path or URL. A web page can’t read files from your disk by itself, so add local pictures with Add images; any image whose file name matches is embedded. Pictures hosted on the web are not fetched — that would contact those servers — and appear as “[Image: alt text]”, with a note saying how many were skipped.

Footnotes, maths, Mermaid diagrams and front matter are not part of core GitHub Flavored Markdown and stay as text. For a fixed-layout file use Markdown to PDF, for web pages Markdown to HTML, and for a quick plain-text copy Markdown to TXT.

Markdown to DOCX Converter FAQ

How do I convert Markdown to Word?

Paste the Markdown or open the .md file, check the preview, then press Download .docx. The Word file is created in your browser in a second.

Are Markdown tables converted to Word tables?

Yes. Each GitHub-style table becomes a real Word table with borders, a shaded header row that repeats on every page, and the column alignment set by the colons in the separator row.

Why are my images missing?

Images that point to files on your computer must be added with Add images so the browser can read them, and images on other websites are not downloaded. Both appear as “[Image: …]” until they are available.

Does the Word document keep code formatting?

Yes. Fenced code blocks become shaded paragraphs in Consolas with every leading space and tab kept, and inline code uses Consolas too.

Can I convert a GitHub README?

Yes. Open the README.md (or paste it) and download the .docx. Badges and screenshots hosted online are shown as placeholders; add local copies of screenshots with Add images.

Is my Markdown uploaded?

No. Parsing and document creation happen entirely in your browser.
