Which FSSAI registration or licence do you need, and what does it cost?
Every food business in India needs either an FSSAI registration or an FSSAI licence. Which one depends mainly on annual turnover, and since 1 April 2026 the limits are much higher than before: Basic Registration covers turnover up to ₹1.5 crore, a State Licence covers turnover above ₹1.5 crore and up to ₹50 crore, and a Central Licence applies above ₹50 crore. Some activities, such as importing food, need a Central Licence whatever their size.
This FSSAI licence fee calculator applies those rules to your business. Pick the kind of business, enter the expected turnover, and it shows the category, the application form (Form A or Form B), who issues it, and the fee for one year or several years at once. It works for a home kitchen, a cloud kitchen, a shop, a manufacturer, a transporter, an importer or an e-commerce platform.
How to use the FSSAI Licence Fee Calculator
- Choose your kind of business.
- Enter the expected annual turnover in lakh or crore rupees.
- Enter how many States/UTs you operate in and how many years you want to pay for.
- For manufacturers and dairies, add the production capacity a day; for hotels, the star rating.
- Read the category, form and total fee, then apply on the official FoSCoS portal.

FSSAI licence fees per year
The fees come from Schedule 3 of the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011. Basic Registration costs ₹100 a year and a Central Licence ₹7,500 a year. A State Licence costs ₹2,000 a year for restaurants, caterers, canteens, traders, storage and most other businesses; ₹3,000 for a manufacturer below 1 MT a day; and ₹5,000 for a manufacturer above 1 MT a day, a dairy handling 10,001 to 50,000 litres a day, or a hotel of 3 stars or more. Fees are not refundable.
So the FSSAI licence fee for 5 years is simply five times the yearly fee: ₹500 for registration, ₹10,000 to ₹25,000 for a State Licence and ₹37,500 for a Central Licence.
Home kitchens and cloud kitchens
A home kitchen, home baker or tiffin service with turnover up to ₹1.5 crore needs Basic Registration on Form A, at ₹100 a year. A cloud kitchen is a food service business, so it follows the same turnover bands: registration up to ₹1.5 crore, then a State Licence at ₹2,000 a year. Selling through a food delivery app does not change your own category; the platform needs its own licence. If you also sell packaged food, the nutrition label generator helps with the label.
Businesses in several states
If you operate in two or more States/UTs, the registered or head office needs a Central Licence, and each premises still takes the registration or licence that fits it. The calculator adds the head-office fee separately so you can see both.
Limits of this calculator
- The live FoSCoS kind-of-business list could not be checked for this page. The central-licence rule for e-commerce platforms and merchant exporters, and the minimum State Licence for caterers, are taken from that list as reported by others.
- Before April 2026, capacity also decided the category (for example 100 kg a day for registration, 2 MT a day for a Central Licence). The 2026 order replaced the categorisation criteria with turnover bands; whether every capacity rule has gone is not spelt out, so the tool warns rather than decides.
- Slaughter houses, Tatkal applications, modification fees and annual returns are not covered.
