A free nutrition label generator with the real FDA rounding rules
This nutrition label generator turns the amounts in one serving of your food into a print-ready Nutrition Facts label in the current US FDA format, or into the nutritional information table used in India under the FSSAI Labelling and Display Regulations, 2020. Type the unrounded values — calories, fats, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrate, fibre, sugars, added sugars, protein, vitamin D, calcium, iron and potassium — and the label applies the official rounding increments and works out every % Daily Value for you.
The preview is drawn as vectors, so you can print it, download a PDF or PNG, or save the label on its own as an SVG at actual size for your packaging artwork.
If you start from a recipe rather than a lab report, build it in the recipe nutrition calculator first — its “Make a nutrition label” link fills this form with the per-serving values.
How to use the Nutrition Label Generator
- Choose US Nutrition Facts (FDA) or India nutritional information (FSSAI).
- Enter the serving size as a household measure (for example “2/3 cup” or “1 bar”), the serving weight in grams or millilitres, and the servings per container.
- Type the amounts per serving before rounding.
- Read the check line: it compares your calories with 4 × carbohydrate + 4 × protein + 9 × fat and flags impossible combinations.
- Pick the paper size and whether you want one label or a full sheet, then press Print label, Download PDF, Download PNG or Download label SVG.
Nutrition Label Generator features
Official rounding
Calories, fats, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates and protein follow the increments in 21 CFR 101.9(c), including “<1g” and “<5mg”.
Current Daily Values
Percentages use the 2016 Daily Values for adults and children 4 years and over (78 g fat, 2,300 mg sodium, 50 g added sugars and so on).
Vitamins and minerals
Vitamin D, calcium, iron and potassium use FDA’s recommended increments and the 2/5/10% DV steps; amounts under 2% of the DV show as zero.
India FSSAI table
Per 100 g or ml, per serve, and % RDA per serve on the 2000 kcal reference, with the footnote the regulation describes.
Print, PDF, PNG and SVG
Vector PDF on Letter or A4, a PNG at 150 or 300 dpi, or the label alone as an SVG for design software.
Sanity checks
Warns when sugars exceed carbohydrate, saturated plus trans fat exceeds total fat, or calories disagree with the macros.
How the FDA rounding works
Nutrition Facts labels never show raw lab numbers. Each nutrient is rounded to a set increment before it is printed, and the % Daily Value is then worked out from the declared amount. The rules below are from 21 CFR 101.9(c) (eCFR, current as of 21 October 2026); vitamin and mineral amounts follow FDA’s 2019 guidance on declaring quantitative amounts.
| Nutrient | Rounding rule |
|---|---|
| Calories | under 5 → 0; up to 50 → nearest 5; above 50 → nearest 10 |
| Total, saturated, trans fat | under 0.5 g → 0; under 5 g → nearest 0.5 g; otherwise nearest 1 g |
| Cholesterol | under 2 mg → 0; 2–5 mg → “<5mg”; otherwise nearest 5 mg |
| Sodium | under 5 mg → 0; 5–140 mg → nearest 5 mg; above 140 mg → nearest 10 mg |
| Carbohydrate, fibre, sugars, added sugars, protein | under 0.5 g → 0; under 1 g → “<1g”; otherwise nearest 1 g |
| Vitamin D · calcium · iron · potassium | nearest 0.1 mcg · 10 mg · 0.1 mg · 10 mg; %DV in steps of 2% (to 10%), 5% (to 50%), then 10% |
Daily Values used for the percentages
For adults and children aged 4 and over, the Daily Values are: total fat 78 g, saturated fat 20 g, cholesterol 300 mg, sodium 2,300 mg, total carbohydrate 275 g, dietary fibre 28 g, added sugars 50 g, protein 50 g, vitamin D 20 mcg, calcium 1,300 mg, iron 18 mg and potassium 4,700 mg (21 CFR 101.9(c)(8)(iv) and (c)(9)). Trans fat and total sugars have no Daily Value; protein %DV is optional without a protein claim, so it is not shown.
As a check, the default values reproduce FDA’s own example label: 230 calories, 8 g fat (10%), 160 mg sodium (7%), 37 g carbohydrate (13%), 10 g added sugars (20%) and 8 mg iron (45%). Potassium entered as 235 mg prints as 240 mg, because FDA’s later guidance rounds potassium to the nearest 10 mg.
The India FSSAI format
Regulation 5(3) of the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020 asks for energy (kcal), protein, carbohydrate with total and added sugars, total fat with saturated and trans fat, cholesterol and sodium — per 100 g or 100 ml (or per single-consumption pack) and per serve, with the per-serve percentage of the RDA. The RDA basis is 2000 kcal energy, 67 g total fat, 22 g saturated fat, 2 g trans fat, 50 g added sugar and 2000 mg sodium. The regulation sets no rounding rule, so this tool prints grams to one decimal and kcal and mg as whole numbers.
Nutrition Label Generator FAQ
Is this nutrition label generator free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark, and the label is drawn in your browser — nothing you type is uploaded.
Can I use the label on products I sell?
Only after checking it. The tool formats and rounds the numbers you supply; it cannot know whether those numbers, your serving size or the label format are right for your product. Regulatory compliance is your responsibility — confirm with a food-labelling professional or the FDA or FSSAI rules before printing packs.
How do I get the nutrition values for my recipe?
Use the recipe nutrition calculator to total the ingredients and divide by servings, then press its “Make a nutrition label” link. For sale, many sellers use a lab analysis or a professional nutrient database.
Does it make UK or EU nutrition labels?
Not yet. UK and EU labels follow different rules (energy in kJ and kcal, per 100 g, salt rather than sodium). This generator covers the US FDA and India FSSAI formats only.
Why does my calcium or potassium number change on the label?
Vitamins and minerals are declared in set increments — calcium and potassium to the nearest 10 mg, iron to 0.1 mg, vitamin D to 0.1 mcg — and amounts below 2% of the Daily Value may be shown as zero.
