A company name generator for formal, registrable names
A company’s registered name has a different job from a catchy shop sign: it appears on contracts, invoices, bank accounts and government filings, it must carry the right legal suffix, and it has to be different enough from every other registered company to be accepted. This company name generator builds formal names the way established firms are named — from founders’ surnames, initials, places, strong abstract words such as Meridian or Keystone, and Latin words such as Veritas (truth) — then adds the legal ending for your country.
Choose India, the US, the UK, Germany, Australia, Singapore or Canada and a legal form, and every idea is shown as it would be registered: “Sharma Rao Technologies Private Limited”, “Keystone Partners LLP”, “Meridian Logistics Ltd”. A short explainer under the options tells you what the suffix means and the rule behind it.

- Select your Country and Legal form, and read the explainer for that suffix.
- Set Max length and Starts with if needed, then press Generate company names.

| Country | Suffix | Meaning and rule |
|---|---|---|
| India | Private Limited · Limited | Companies Act, 2013, s.4: private companies end with “Private Limited”, public ones with “Limited” |
| India | LLP | LLP Act, 2008, s.15: “LLP” or “Limited Liability Partnership” |
| United States | LLC · Inc. | Set by each state: LLC/L.L.C. for limited liability companies; Inc., Corp. or Corporation for corporations |
| United Kingdom | Ltd · plc · LLP | Companies Act 2006, ss.58–59: “limited”/“ltd.” or “public limited company”/“p.l.c.” |
| Germany | GmbH · UG (haftungsbeschränkt) · AG | Legal form must appear in the name; GmbH needs €25,000 capital, UG from €1 |
| Australia | Pty Ltd | Corporations Act 2001, s.148: “Proprietary Limited” or “Pty Ltd” |
| Singapore | Pte. Ltd. | “Private Limited” or “Pte. Ltd.” for private companies |
Choosing a pattern: strengths and trade-offs
- Founders’ surnames signal accountability and suit law, accounting and consulting firms. In the US, a name that is “primarily merely a surname” is hard to register as a trademark without proof that customers recognise it.
- Initials look established on letterheads, but two or three letters are hard to remember and often already used — pair them with a distinctive word.
- Places such as Deccan, Malabar or Western tell people where you are rooted, but geographic words are usually weak trademarks and can feel limiting if you expand.
- Abstract and Latin words are the most distinctive and travel well across markets; the trade-off is that they say nothing about what you do until you build the brand.
Why generic words lower the score
Registries and courts treat names as a spectrum from generic (“Software Company”) through descriptive (“Fast Logistics”) to suggestive, arbitrary and invented words. The further along you go, the easier a name is to register and defend. India’s company registry also ignores words such as Private Limited, Company and Corporation, plurals and punctuation when it compares names — so “Global Solutions” added to an existing name does not make it new. If you want a shorter trading brand next to the registered name, the Business Name Generator and Brand Name Generator are built for that, and the Domain Name Generator finds a matching web address.
Company Name Generator FAQ
How do I name a private limited company in India?
Choose a distinctive main word, add a word for your activity, and end with “Private Limited” — for example “Keystone Logistics Private Limited”. The company name generator does this for you. Avoid words that need government approval (National, Board, Commission) and check the MCA name search before applying through RUN or SPICe+ Part A.
What is the difference between Pvt Ltd, LLP and OPC?
A private limited company has shareholders and directors (at least two of each); an LLP is a partnership whose partners have limited liability; a One Person Company is a private company with a single member. The suffix — Private Limited, LLP or (OPC) Private Limited — tells the public which one you are.
Can I use my surname in a company name?
Yes, and it is common for professional firms. It is usually accepted for company registration if no similar name exists, but on its own a surname is a weak trademark; adding a distinctive word helps.
Should I write Ltd or Limited?
The registered name uses the form your law requires — India uses “Private Limited” in full, while the UK accepts “Ltd” or “Limited”. Short forms such as Pvt. Ltd. are widely used on letterheads, but use the exact registered name on contracts and invoices.
What does the distinctiveness score measure?
The share of words in the name that are not generic business words, adjusted down for bare initials, place names and surnames and up for abstract or Latin words. A higher score suggests a name that is easier to register and protect; it does not search any register.
Is the company name generator free?
Yes. It runs in your browser, needs no sign-up, and keeps your favourites only on this device.
