A business name generator that explains every idea

A shop, café, salon or start-up name is hard to change later. This business name generator turns your industry and a few keywords into 24 ideas at a time, built with the techniques professional namers use: compounds, alliteration, rhyme, blends, prefixes and suffixes, Latin and Greek roots, invented words, and Indian words from Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu and Tamil with their meanings shown.

Every idea gets an ease score out of 100. Press the search button on any name to see a domain hint, links to official trademark searches, and how the name would look on an Indian company registration. Everything runs in your browser; nothing you type is uploaded.

How to use the Business Name Generator

    1. Choose your Industry and type up to three Keywords — a product (“coffee”), a feeling (“cosy”) or a place (“Pune”).
    2. Pick a Style: Mixed, Catchy (rhyme and alliteration), Modern (blends, suffixes, invented words), Classic (two-word names), Indian words, or Latin & Greek.
    3. Narrow the list with Max length, Starts with and the checkboxes.
    4. Press Generate names for a fresh batch. To get the same list again later, type the seed shown under the buttons into Seed.
    5. Star the names you like, press the search icon for checks, and export the results or your favourites with Download CSV.

    Business Name Generator features

    Ten naming techniques

Each idea is labelled with how it was made — rhyme, blend, Latin root and so on — so you can ask for more of what works.

    Ease score

Combines a pronounceability check (awkward consonant clusters, vowel balance, rare letters) with length and word count; green means easy to say and spell.

    Indian words with meanings

About 100 words such as Swad (taste), Safar (journey) and Kolam (rice-flour drawing), matched to your industry.

    Name checks

Domain hint, official trademark search links for India, the US, the EU/UK and WIPO, and MCA word-rule flags with the “Private Limited” and “LLP” forms.

What makes a good business name

    • Passes the phone test. Say it to someone over a call. If you have to spell it out, customers will mistype it in search and email.
    • Suggests, doesn’t describe. “Mumbai Coffee Shop” is clear but generic — hard to trademark and easy to confuse with competitors. “Copper Kettle” hints at warmth and stands out.
    • Leaves room to grow. A name tied to one product or city feels cramped when you expand.
    • Means nothing awkward elsewhere. Ask friends who speak the languages of your customers — a lovely word in English can be a joke in Hindi or Tamil.

Registering the name in India: MCA rules (as of 14 October 2026)

Under section 4 of the Companies Act, 2013, a private company’s name must end with “Private Limited” and a public company’s with “Limited”; an LLP’s name ends with “LLP” or “Limited Liability Partnership” (LLP Act, 2008, section 15). The Companies (Incorporation) Rules, 2014 add the details that most often get a name rejected:

    • Too similar to an existing name. Plurals, spelling variants that sound the same, punctuation, spacing, capitals and words such as “Private Limited”, “Company” or “Corporation” are ignored when names are compared (Rule 8).
    • Words needing government approval such as Board, Commission, Authority, National, Union, Central, Federal, Republic, Bureau, Municipal and Court (Rule 8B).
    • Regulated words such as Bank, Insurance, Stock Exchange, Venture Capital, Asset Management, Nidhi and Mutual Fund need a declaration that RBI, SEBI or IRDAI requirements are met.
    • Trademarks: a name containing someone else’s registered or pending trademark needs the owner’s consent (Rule 8A).
    • Reservation: names are reserved through the RUN service or SPICe+ Part A on the MCA portal for a ₹1,000 fee; an approved name for a new company is held for 20 days.

    Check before you print anything

A free company name does not mean a free trademark, and a free trademark does not mean the domain is available. Search the trademark registers in every country you plan to sell in, look for the matching domain with the Domain Name Generator, and check social handles. If you register a company in India, also run the free name search on the MCA portal before filing. For formal names built from founders’ names or initials, try the Company Name Generator; for product names, the Brand Name Generator. This page explains the rules in plain words — it is not legal advice, and a company secretary or trademark attorney should confirm your final choice.

    Business Name Generator FAQ

How do I come up with a business name?

Enter two or three words about what you sell and how customers should feel, try several styles in the business name generator, star 10–15 favourites, say each aloud, then check trademarks and domains for the best three.

Are the business names free to use?

Yes, but nothing is reserved for you either. The tool cannot see trademark or company registers, so search them before you commit.

What does the ease score mean?

It estimates how easy a name is to say, spell and remember: half pronounceability (awkward letter clusters, vowel balance, rare letters), about a third length (8 letters or fewer is ideal) and the rest the number of words. Scores of 75 and above are green. It is a guide only.

Can I use Hindi or Sanskrit words in my business name?

Yes. Choose the “Indian words” style to get names such as Swad Kitchen or Safar Trips, each with its meaning. Indian-language words are common in registered names; the same similarity and approval rules apply as for English words.

Which words are not allowed in a company name in India?

Words suggesting a government connection — National, Union, Central, Federal, Republic, Board, Commission, Authority, Bureau and similar — need Central Government approval, and words such as Bank, Insurance and Mutual Fund need regulator compliance. The check panel flags them.

Does this tool check if a domain or trademark is available?

Not automatically. The check panel links to the official trademark searches and to the Domain Name Generator, which offers an optional DNS check.
