An AI resume generator that keeps your numbers honest
Most people know what they did at work; turning it into resume bullets is the slow part. This AI resume generator takes rough notes for each job — “responsible for cleaning store data, cut report prep from 2 days to 3 hours” — and writes action-verb bullet points in XYZ or STAR order, three professional summaries for the role you want, and a grouped skills section.
It is strict about one thing: numbers. A bullet may only use figures that are in your notes for that job, so an AI draft that promises “25% faster” when you never said so is marked in red. Weak openings such as “responsible for” or “helped with”, bullets without a verb and summaries full of “results-driven team player” are flagged too, and a pasted job ad is checked for the keywords your resume does and doesn’t use.
When you are happy, Open in resume builder saves a file in exactly the format the Resume Builder exports, so you can import it there, pick a layout and download a PDF. The writing happens on your device — your browser’s built-in AI, IBM’s open Granite 4.0 Nano model (Apache-2.0, downloaded only after you agree) or the page’s own templates.
How to generate resume bullets and a summary
- Type the Role you’re applying for, your name and, if you like, your years of experience.
- For each job, fill in the title, company and dates, and write What you did as rough notes, one per line. Keep any real numbers — they are the only ones the bullets may use.
- Add your Skills and Education, and paste the Job ad for the keyword check.
- Choose XYZ or STAR and press Write resume with AI — or Template version for an instant, AI-free rewrite of your notes.
- Fix anything flagged, press ↻ to try a summary again or switch a job’s bullets to the other formula, then Open in resume builder.
AI Resume Generator features
Notes → action-verb bullets
“responsible for cleaning…” becomes “Cleaned…”, “helped the audit team…” becomes “Supported the audit team…”, present and -ing forms become past tense, checked against a list of 230 action verbs.
XYZ or STAR order
XYZ leads with the measurable result (“Cut report prep time from 2 days to 3 hours by cleaning store data…”); STAR keeps the action first and the result after it.
Three summaries
Achievement-led, skills-led (or a career-move version when your current title differs from the target) and a two-line short version.
Number and wording checks
Numbers not in that job’s notes, weak openings, missing verbs, “I/my”, overlong bullets, resume clichés and bullets with no result at all.
Job-ad keyword check
Tools, skills and certifications in the ad are matched against your resume text — exact, with another ending, or as a synonym — plus the job title.

Worked example: Neha’s notes
With the sample — a Business Analyst at Orbit Retail applying for Data Analyst roles, XYZ order, seed 1 — the note “responsible for cleaning store data from 3 ERP systems, cut report prep time from 2 days to 3 hours” becomes:
- XYZ: Cut report prep time from 2 days to 3 hours by cleaning store data from 3 ERP systems
- STAR: Cleaned store data from 3 ERP systems, cutting report prep time from 2 days to 3 hours
- “helped the audit team with data requests” → Supported the audit team with data requests (flagged: no number — add a result if you have one)
- Summary 1: “Data Analyst with 5 years of experience in SQL, Power BI and Excel. At Orbit Retail, cut report prep time from 2 days to 3 hours by cleaning store data from 3 ERP systems. Brings strong stakeholder management and communication skills.” — 41 words.
- Keyword check against the sample ad: 6 of 9 found; Tableau, Google Analytics and A/B testing are missing — add them only if you have used them.
XYZ and STAR, briefly
The XYZ formula was popularised by Laszlo Bock, then head of people operations at Google, in a LinkedIn post of September 2014: “Accomplished [X] as measured by [Y], by doing [Z]”. It forces a result and a measure into every line. STAR — Situation, Task, Action, Result — comes from behavioural interviews; on a resume it shrinks to one line with the action first and the result after it.
Neither works without real results. If a bullet has no number, the page says so instead of making one up: think of time saved, money, volume, people served, error rates or rankings you can prove.
Limits and next steps
- The template rewrites only the first verb and splits “action, result” when the result starts with a result verb; anything else keeps your wording. The AI writes more freely but must be checked.
- Bullets are past tense throughout; some advisers prefer present tense for ongoing duties in your current job.
- The keyword check uses this page’s own skills dictionary. Before applying, test the finished PDF with the ATS Resume Checker and write the letter with the Cover Letter Generator.
AI Resume Generator FAQ
Is this AI resume generator free, and is my data private?
Yes. There is no sign-up, and your notes are processed in your browser by its built-in AI, the open Granite model on your device or templates. Nothing is uploaded; the resume-builder file is saved straight to your computer.
How do I write resume bullet points with numbers?
Start with a past-tense action verb, say what you did, and add the result with a number you can back up: “Automated reconciliation with VBA macros, saving 6 hours a week”. Put the number in your notes and the generator will keep it.
Why is a number marked red?
It appears in a bullet or summary but not in your notes for that job (or your years of experience). AI models sometimes add plausible figures; remove it, or add it to your notes if it is true.
How do I move the result into the Resume Builder?
Press Open in resume builder to save a JSON file, open the Resume Builder, press Import JSON and choose the file. Your summary, jobs, bullets, skills and education appear there, ready for a template and a PDF.
What is a good length for a professional summary?
Two or three sentences — roughly 40 to 80 words — that name the role you want, your experience, two or three key skills and one proof point. The meter marks summaries under 25 or over 80 words.
