PF calculator for your EPF balance, employer share and EPS pension

This PF calculator projects your Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) balance to retirement. Enter your age, basic pay plus dearness allowance (DA), increments and today’s balance to see what you and your employer pay each month, how interest builds up, your corpus at retirement and an estimate of your Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) pension.

It applies the ₹25,000 wage ceiling in force from 17 September 2026 and the 8.25% rate declared for 2025-26 — both editable. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.

EPF differs from the Public Provident Fund (PPF): EPF is funded through payroll by you and your employer, at a rate EPFO’s trustees set each year, while PPF is a voluntary account you open yourself, with ₹500 to ₹1.5 lakh a year, a 15-year term and a rate reset every quarter. Results are estimates, not financial or tax advice.

How to use the PF Calculator

How EPF contributions are split

You pay 12% of wages (basic + DA + retaining allowance) and your employer pays 12%. Of the employer’s share, 8.33% of wages up to the ceiling goes to EPS and the rest to your EPF account. On ₹40,000 a month:

ComponentRateOn ₹40,000 a month
Your EPF contribution12% of wages₹4,800
Employer to EPS8.33% of wages up to ₹25,000₹2,083
Employer to EPF12% minus the EPS share₹2,717
EDLI insurance (employer)0.5% of wages up to ₹25,000₹125
EPF admin charges (employer)0.5% of PF wages₹200

How EPF interest is calculated (worked example)

Interest is worked out on the monthly running balance: the opening balance earns a full year’s interest, each credit earns interest from the following month, and the total is added on 31 March. Example: opening balance ₹1,00,000 and ₹3,917 a month into EPF (₹3,000 + ₹917 on a ₹25,000 wage). Interest at 8.25% = 1,00,000 × 8.25% + 3,917 × 8.25% ÷ 12 × 66 = ₹8,250 + ₹1,777 = ₹10,027 (66 = 11 + 10 + … + 0 months), so the year closes at ₹1,57,031 — what the calculator shows for a 57-year-old retiring at 58. Employers pay by the 15th of the next month, so real interest can be slightly lower.

EPS pension: formula and example

Monthly pension = pensionable salary (average wage of the last 60 months, capped at the ceiling) × pensionable service ÷ 70. Two years are added once service reaches 20 years. A monthly pension needs 10 years of service; it starts at 58, can start from 50 at 4% less per year early, and deferring to 60 adds 4% a year. The minimum is ₹1,000.

Example: 6 years so far plus 28 more to 58, plus 2 years of weightage. Past years at the ₹15,000 ceiling of their time, the rest at ₹25,000: (6 × 15,000 + 30 × 25,000) ÷ 70 = ₹12,000 a month. EPFO has not yet said how it will combine service before and after 17 September 2026; we follow its approach after the 2014 revision.

Employees who joined on or after 1 September 2014 earning above the ceiling are “excluded” from EPS, so the whole employer share goes to EPF. Members with a valid higher-pension option (Supreme Court judgment of November 2022) have 8.33% of actual wages plus 1.16% of wages above ₹15,000 diverted to EPS. PF Calculator FAQ

How is PF calculated on salary?

You and your employer each pay 12% of basic + DA. On ₹40,000 that is ₹4,800 each; the employer’s share splits into ₹2,083 for EPS and ₹2,717 for EPF. This PF calculator shows the split for your salary.

What is the EPF interest rate for 2025-26?

8.25%, the same as the two previous years, ratified in June 2026. The 2026-27 rate usually comes early in 2027.

Is EPF interest tax-free?

Mostly. Interest on your own contributions above ₹2.5 lakh a year is taxable, and withdrawals before five years of continuous service can be taxed.

How much pension will I get from EPS?

Average capped salary of the last 60 months × years of service ÷ 70. Six years so far plus 28 more, mostly at ₹25,000, gives about ₹12,000 a month from 58.

What changed with the ₹25,000 wage ceiling?

From 17 September 2026 the maximum EPS share rose from ₹1,250 to ₹2,083 a month, employees earning ₹15,001–₹25,000 became mandatory members, and pensions can use wages up to ₹25,000.

Can I withdraw my EPF before retirement?

Partly: after 12 months of membership for marriage, education, housing or illness, keeping 25% of contributions. Full withdrawal is allowed on retiring after 55, incapacity or settling abroad, or 12 months after leaving a job.
